Heavy rock icons MASTODON are currently in the final stages of recording their highly-anticipated next album with producer Brendan O ’ Brien, the Atlanta quartet have additional plans that will carry them into 2009 before the new release sees the light of day.

The phenomenally successful Rock Band game brand is preparing to launch its latest edition, Rock Band 2, which will feature the Mastodon track “ Colony Of Birchmen , ” from their current Grammy nominated Reprise Records album, BLOOD MOUNTAIN . The game will be available on several game platforms including Xbox 360 scheduled for release on Sep 14, PS3 scheduled for Oct 19, and Wii scheduled for a Nov 16, release. Following the recently completed coast-to-coast Mayhem Tour with Slipknot and Disturbed among others, MASTODON will head overseas to join forces with Slayer, Trivium, and Amon Amorth as part of The Unholy Alliance Tour Chapter 3. Confirmed dates are listed below.

Prior to the European tour, MASTODON will play a special one-off club show in Athens, GA with comedian Brian Posehn on Saturday Oct 11, at the 40 Watt Club to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the venerable smartass institution known as Chunklet Magazine.
